On Friday we’ll be tapping Brewer Alex’s Schwarzbier. This is a dark lager and really the best way I can describe it is the lightest dark beer I ever had. Super delicious and buzz word alert ‘sessionable’!

Wednesday - September 27th 2017

Hi Everyone,

Hope all is well and Happy Wednesday!

Well, since I last had a chance to put a newsletter together we’ve had a few beers enter the tap lineup. The Fritz Hefeweizen is back and the Pumpkin Ale baby. Yes, it’s that time of year again! Ha! We’ll have the Fritz and the Pumpkin available at both locations.

Also, we were able to get our hands on some wet hops from our friends @ YCH Hops. It was a bit of a logistical nightmare with hurricane Irma having her way with our great state of Florida, but we got em and brewed with them the day they arrived for optimal freshness and flavor! The hop used is called Ekuanot. Expect lots of tropical fruit aromas in this Wet Hop Pale Ale. It should be ready to tap next week!

Here’s the beer’s that are on deck to be tapped @ Bold City Downtown:

Bold City Newsletter August 16, 2017

Wednesday - August 16th 2017

Hi Everyone,

Hope all is well and Happy Wednesday! I wanted to tell you guys about something that the Brewers Association has put together so consumers like you and I, can easily differentiate beer from craft brewers and beer produced by other, non-craft companies (ie faux craft). The seal sends a “clear message to the beer drinker” that a beer is made by a small and independent brewer, explains Brewers Association Director Paul Gatza. Bold City Brewery will be implementing the seal into our current can labels, tap handles and other marketing materials. You can view the seal and read more by clicking HERE!

Also, it’s freekin football time and I’m ready to see the Jags in person on Thursday night. Stop by either Bold City location and grab some cold brew for tailgating on your way to the game!

Hi Everyone,

Hope all is well and Happy Friday. We at Bold City Brewery are very happy that The Bold City Tap Room (Rosselle) will be re-opening tonight, as normal, at 3pm!

The Bold City Family would like to say thank you to everyone for the overwhelming support over the last 24 hours, to Mayor Curry, the City of Jacksonville and to the Fire Marshal’s office for helping us work through this issue in a speedy fashion.

Bold City Brewery (Rosselle) is closed until further notice

Thursday - July 6th 2017

Bold City Tap Room – Rosselle is Closed Until Further Notice

As has been routine for 9 years now, the Fire Marshal came for their annual inspection. Routine inspection, right? Not this time.

The Fire Marshal has determined that our original certificate of use does not allow us to operate our tap room that has been operating as is with zoning approval for 9 years.

Bold City will make every effort to open the tap room back up as soon as possible.

While we are in the process of re-opening, please visit our downtown location located @ 109 East Bay Street. Open everyday @ 11am.

Thank you for understanding,
Brian

New England IPAs are beers that are purposely hazy or cloudy, which can give these brews a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. With little to no hop bitterness at the end utilizing hops that impart a tropical, juicy sweetness rather than the classic bitter, dank or citrus-y flavors West Coast IPA lovers have come to expect. The hops used in Jeremy’s version of this style are Ariana, Belma, Calista, El Dorado and two experimental hops, HBC 344 & HBC 517. We’ve also flown in a special yeast for this brew known only as Conan (The Barbarian)!

Tapping Yasgurs Farmhouse Ale at Bold City Brewery

Thursday - June 29th 2017

In August 1969, the Woodstock Music & Art Fair attracted over 400,000 people and became the iconic symbol of music festivals. The owner of the farm on which Woodstock was held, Max Yasgur, withstood an onslaught of complaints from neighbors not wanting a large number of hippies coming into town.

It is said that Max was quoted, "if the generation gap is to be closed, we older people have to do more than we have done." He provided food at cost and free water to the concert-goers.

In recognition of Woodstock and Max Yasgur, this year's winner of the CASK Homebrew competition Abbey Normal (Saison Category) – Joe Gilfus - brewed at Bold City Downtown with Jeremy and produced Yasgurs Farmhouse Ale – and we are tapping it at the main Bold City Brewery location Saturday, July 1 at 1pm!

Kick off your 4th of July weekend with us here at Bold City Brewery! Be sure to bring your growlers to fill for this Independence Day holiday!

Saturday - June 10th 2017

All of us at Bold City Brewery are excited to be a proud supporter of the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens' Manatee Critical Care Center!

This important addition to the Jacksonville Zoo provides care for injured manatees right here in Jacksonville – prior to its opening, manatees needing significant medical attention and care had to be transported to Tampa or SeaWorld in Orlando.

A portion of all Mad Manatee IPA sales are donated to the Jacksonville Zoo's Manatee Critical Care and Rehabilitation Center. We have also added the Zoo’s logo to our Mad Manatee cans – available now on the shelves of your favorite beer purveyor!

Bold City Downtown Update:

Jeremy's beers will be on tap this Friday (May 26) at Bold City Downtown starting at 11 am. Jeremy brewed an English Rye IPA with an American-aggressively hopped twist, an Oatmeal Stout and an Extra Special Bitter.

We will be tapping The George and the Dragon Oatmeal Stout at 11 am, The JAM ESB at 2 pm and The Pryed of Frank and Stein Rye IPA at 5 pm.

Check out Jeremy’s (aka Big Jerm) inspiration for his latest brews below and be sure to enjoy a glass while they’re on tap @ Bold City Downtown!

Jeremy Baker. Husband, father of two, musician, and brewer:

The George and the Dragon:
I have family in England so we would visit every couple of years growing up. The legal drinking age is lower there, so the first time I could legitimately drink a beer at a bar was just down the hill from my Grandparent's house. The pub was named The George and the Dragon and George, coincidently was also my Grandfather's name. My oatmeal stout uses a UK hop called Phoenix, so the name is fitting for multiple reasons. It's dark, full bodied and chocolate forward with 5% ABV.

The JAM ESB:
My ESB is also an homage to my British heritage. Attempting to create a traditional English pale ale, I've balanced English 2 row and mild malts with a touch of crystal/caramel malts and English variety hops. My goal with this one was to emulate what you would get if you were in an English pub and asked for a pint of bitter. This is one of the first styles of beer I fell in love with as a young man. It's well balanced with slight bitterness and 5.5% ABV.

The Pryed of Frank and Stein:
My Rye IPA is an English IPA with an American twist as it has been very aggressively hopped. The ingredients came from all over. Spicy and earthy hops from the US and Europe combine with English and American pale malts as well as rye malts to create a Frankenstein of a beer, but with a primary focus on highlighting the experimental hop, HBC 682. This hop is said to have a mild and pleasant aroma with herbal, floral and spicy characteristics. This hoppy hybrid is 7% ABV.

Current Tap List for Bold City Downtown:
The George and the Dragon Oatmeal Stout – 5/26
The JAM ESB – 5/26
The Pryed of Frank and Stein Rye IPA – 5/26
Hop Burst Pale Ale
Passion Fruit Pale Wheat Ale
SMaSH Double IPA
High West Bourbon Barrel Aged Mad Manatee
High West Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout
Screamsicle Cream Ale
Killer Whale Cream Ale
Duke’s Cold Nose Brown Ale
Mad Manatee IPA

Manatee Critical Care Center

Monday - March 13th 2017

Bold City Brewery is excited and honored to partner with Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens by donating a portion of all Mad Manatee IPA sales to the Zoo's new Manatee Critical Care Center, the first ever manatee critical care center in northeast Florida!

Check out a sneak peek of the new facility thanks to Curtis Dvorak with First Coast News:
http://www.firstcoastnews.com/features/inside-the-manatee-critical-care-center/420742197

This critical care center in northeast Florida will provide more immediate care for the already-stressed animals as well as minimizing transport distance and time for state employees and volunteers.

The $2.1 million center was funded by private individuals who recognized the need for a care center in the region, and a $500,000 grant from the State of Florida. Built to hold 5-6 animals at a time (pending each animal’s individual situation), the center will provide temporary housing and care for manatees until they are healthy enough to be returned to the location they were found.

Located at the juncture of the Education campus, Wild Florida and the back of the gorilla exhibit, the center will provide limited and periodic views of manatees for Zoo guests and offer behind-the-scenes tours. However, due to the center only providing temporary housing, there may be times no manatees are present in the pools.

For more information about the Zoo and its plans for manatees, including a Care Facility rendering, please visit:

Hope all is well and Happy Wednesday! Just a quick email to let you guys know what we have going on here @ The Bold City Tap Room this weekend!

Tomorrow, Thursday 1/12/17 for Bold Treatment Thursday, we’ll be tapping a keg of Duke’s Cold Nose Brown Ale aged on maple chips, cocoa nibs, bold bean coffee and vanilla. It’s complex and damn tasty!

On Saturday 1/14/17 we’ll be pouring the Duke’s Cold Nose Brown Ale through the randall full of delicious UK Phoenix Whole Leaf Hops. Phoenix has excellent fresh flavor characteristics that include pine, floral, chocolate, molasses and slightly spicy.
